Frequently asked questions
Which epochs of Russian literature do the professors cover?
Tutors work with you on all periods — Old Russian literature, Classicism, Romanticism (Pushkin, Lermontov), the Golden Age (Gogol, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Chekhov), the Silver Age and Modernism (Blok, Akhmatova, Mandelstam), Soviet literature (Bulgakov, Sholokhov, Pasternak, Brodsky, Solzhenitsyn), as well as contemporary. The plan is tailored to your study or personal goals.
I'm preparing for the Russian literature exam at the Faculty of Philology — can you help?
Yes. Tutors (often Russian specialists from the Faculty of Philology) will guide you through the compulsory reading list, biographies of authors, key motifs and interpretations, as well as specific secondary literature required by the department. The plan is made on a weekly basis up to the exam.
Can I read works in the original Russian?
Yes, if you have a solid B2/C1 level of Russian. Professors can guide you through reading the original works — Pushkin, Chekhov, Bunin — with discussions on linguistic and stylistic specifics. Without knowledge of Russian, work is done with high-quality translations.
What does an online Russian literature lesson look like?
Lessons are mostly discussion and text analysis — you and the professor share a board where quotes, analysis schemes, and timelines of epochs are posted. Materials (essays, critical literature) can be shared before the lesson. A recording of the lesson remains available for later revision before the exam.
How much does private tuition in Russian literature cost?
Prices range from around 1,200 to 2,500 RSD per hour. Assistants and lecturers from the Department of Russian Studies are usually in the higher range. You can see the exact price on each professor's profile.
